EMDRAA Webinar: EMDR & Substance Use: Bridging Research and Clinical Practice
Join Logan Harvey on Thursday, 30 October 2025 as he presents EMDR & Substance Use: Bridging Research and Clinical Practice.
Substance use disorders almost invariably occur within the context of adversity and trauma. Individuals experiencing substance use concerns often present with high rates of comorbid mental health difficulties. As a result, many clients are moved between fragmented systems of care, often receiving disjointed or inadequate treatment. EMDR therapy is uniquely positioned to address these complex comorbidities, particularly when they arise against a backdrop of trauma. However, existing research findings remain inconsistent, leaving clinicians with limited guidance on how to effectively apply EMDR therapy in this population.
This webinar aims to bridge the gap between research and clinical practice. It will:
- Critically examine the current evidence base and its limitations
- Highlight emerging research, including findings from an Australian project
- Provide practical considerations for clinicians integrating EMDR therapy into substance use treatment
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the key factors supporting EMDR’s relevance in the treatment of substance use disorders.
- Summarize and interpret current research findings on EMDR and substance use.
- Apply insights from research to enhance clinical practice with this population.
