Despite its importance, future-focused work in EMDR therapy is often overlooked. Many clinicians concentrate on past trauma and current triggers but may not allocate enough time to ensuring clients can move forward confidently. Without addressing the future, clients risk repeating maladaptive patterns or struggling with unresolved fears. Key challenges include difficulty visualizing a positive future, persistent anticipatory anxiety, lack of motivation, and situational complexities.
Alternative Approaches for Addressing the Future
Since the standard Future Template may not always be sufficient, alternative methods such as the Reverse Protocol and Flashforward Procedure offer more tailored solutions for future concerns.
This webinar will examine underutilized future-focused strategies in EMDR, covering:
- Limitations of the Future Template and ways to enhance it
- Reverse Protocol for prioritizing future fears
- Flashforward Procedure for catastrophic anticipations
- Case studies and creative interventions for effective future-focused EMDR therapy.
