EMDR training is open to mental health professionals such as psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, mental health nurses, and counsellors who meet eligibility criteria. Only an EMDRAA-accredited training provider will ensure your training is recognised by EMDRAA.
EMDR basic training typically includes two workshops of at least 20 hours each, and at least 10 consultation hours. Accredited providers follow the EMDRAA curriculum to ensure compliance with Australian standards.
When you have completed all 50 hours of EMDR basic training, you will be eligible for full membership with EMDRAA. When you are a member, you can advise Clients about your membership with EMDRAA.
No. Full membership is available to eligible people who have completed EMDR accredited training and consultation. Accreditation is an optional step, and requires a minimum of 12 months' work as an EMDR trained therapist before an application can be submitted.
No. EMDRAA accredits training providers. Completing training with an accredited provider ensures eligibility for future accreditation. A list of currently accredited training providers is available here.
In some cases, yes. If you have completed EMDR training overseas through an internationally recognised EMDR Association accredited provider, you may be eligible for recognition. You will need to provide documentation for assessment against EMDRAA standards.
EMDRAA considers applications for exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis. Supporting documentation will be required, and decisions are made with fairness and professional standards in mind.
